Guru Dragpo is the wrathful and terrifying manifestation of Guru Padmasambhava, hence known as the Wrathful Padmasambhava. Guru Padmasambhava was a great Indian Buddhist master, whose Sanskrit name is Padmasambhava. He was from Oddiyana in Eastern India, thus respectfully referred to as the Master of Oddiyana (Guru Dragpo) or Guru (meaning teacher). He is considered the founder of Tibetan Buddhism and also the propagator of the Vajra dance "Cham" in Tibetan Buddhism, therefore regarded as a protective deity.
