Yang Ren is a general in the Zhou army in the Nuo opera *Fengshen Bang* (The Investiture of the Gods). Due to slander by Su Daji and the foolishness of King Zhou, he was persecuted and lost his eyes. His intense grievances and resentment drew the attention of an enlightened Taoist master, who saved him. After being rescued, hands grew in place of his eyes, and eyes appeared on those hands, giving him the ability to see the heavens above, the underworld below, and all matters in the human realm. Ultimately, he attained immortality and aided King Wu in overthrowing King Zhou.
